Šibenik Bay, Croatia
We went to Šibenik Bay to study the biogeochemical cycling of metals in this typical pristine estuary of Croatia. This is evidence of how summer tourism affects the environment; higher nautical activities lead to higher metal concentration in seawater, and such an effect is more visible in this pristine area. We have stayed at Martinska marine station of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, and we have accompanied high school students from the French project “Cordées de la réussite” so they can learn about polluted sediments and how to valorize these potential resources in their project.
